Q: Who are the Cleveland Barons/ Strongsville 8U Program?
The Cleveland Barons/Strongsville 8U are a youth hockey club where our goal is long-term development, not short-term success. We intentionally offer different level teams with different emphasis, in order to address the different needs and interests of members in the program.
Q: What is the cost of the Cleveland Barons/Strongsville 8U Program?
The BLUE level is $800 plus socks and jerseys. The White and Red level is $900 plus socks and jerseys. Processing Fees and Admin fees are additional.
Q: Where do the 8U teams practice and play home games?
OBM Arena in Strongsville, OH
Note: Cleveland Barons Arena will only be utilized if necessary.
Q: What is the CSHL?
The Cleveland Suburban Hockey League is a youth hockey league developed in 1971. The CSHL was founded to support and promote age-group hockey in the Greater Cleveland area.
Q: What teams do the 8U teams play against?
Teams will compete in CSHL and participate in the OBM Arena Mite tournaments when they occur and your level of team is participating.
Q: What is the main difference between the Cleveland Barons/Strongsville 8U program and other local programs?
This program is a unique and 1 of a kind program. With the 2 programs merging Consistent ice times throughout the week; highly skilled, experienced, committed, and certified coaching staff; focus on individual player development, as well as team development; station based practice following the ADM Model for player skill development and team based practices for team development.
Q: What times do you anticipate practices to be?
At this point in time, we anticipate practice times to span from 5:40 pm to 8pm during the week and weekend hours anytime between 9am to 7pm.
Q: Are there tryouts?
There are not specified try out dates or times, rather evaluation and placement skates to kick off the beginning of the season. This will take place in late August, early September.
Q: When and how will teams be decided?
All teams will be divided by like skill and placements will happen in early September.
Q: Is equipment provided? Where can it be purchased?
Skaters equipment is not provided, A very affordable place to purchase gentle used and sometime new equipment can be found at PLAY IT AGAIN SPORTS in North Olmsted. Ask for Dan. Equipment can also be found at Peranis Hockey World in North Olmsted.
Q: What about goalies? Will there be goalie instruction?
We are working to have separate goalie instruction with the higher level Red Teams as well as a goalie coach at most practices. For those in need of goalie equipment, the program has purchased enough goalie equipment for each team to use. No need to purchase goalie equipment to give it a try.
Are jerseys and socks included in the assessments?
Practice Jerseys are included for NEW registrations in the assessment fee. Players will be required to purchase separate game jerseys and socks.
Will the teams play in Tournaments?
OBM ARENA host Mite Tournaments, playing in these tournaments are included at no extra fee, but parents must volunteer where needed to make these tournaments a success. Playing in these tournaments is based on the teams in the tournament and the level of your player/team. Some teams will also choose to register for other tournaments outside of OBM. Parents will be required to pay additional fees for these based on team specifics.
Q: When and where can we register? Will it be limited to a specific number of players?
Registration for the 2024-25 season will be available in early April. You can register by visiting the homepage. There is no specific number of players, and anyone who registers will make a team.
